Beds for dogs who sleep on their back

On their back, paws in the air. Needs a wall on each side, so they don’t roll out.

A belly-up sleeps on their back with their paws in the air: a dog completely at ease. It’s often a warm dog’s position too, with the belly, where the fur is thinnest, open to the air.

On their back, a dog can roll. A wall on each side keeps them in the bed, and gives them something to lean on as they tip one way or the other.

What to look for

  • Bolsters on both sides, or all the way round, so they don’t roll out.
  • A wide middle, with room to lie flat on their back between the walls.
  • A cooler fabric if they run hot.

Getting the size right

Measure your dog on their back, from the nose to the base of the tail, and pick a bed whose inside is at least that long, so the walls sit beside them, not under them. Each bed’s sizes are on its page and in the size guide.
