A flyer lies belly down with their front legs forward and their back legs stretched out behind. Some people call it the sploot, or superman. It’s a favorite of young dogs and short-legged breeds, and of dogs pressing a warm belly to something cool.
Flyers use every inch of a bed, at both ends. A flat bed gives their back legs room, with no wall in the way.
What to look for
- A flat bed from end to end: a rug bed, a mattress or a rectangle.
- Length from their front paws to their back paws, stretched out.
- Support under the chest and hips, from memory foam or thick foam, so they’re not lying on the floor.
Getting the size right
Measure your dog stretched out, from the tips of their front paws to the tips of their back paws, and pick a bed at least that long. Each bed’s sizes are on its page and in the size guide.
